Recording tips:
To avoid the potential loss of data due to power outages, it is recommended to place a Powerware UPS (uninterruptible power supply) in front of the recording device.  While an "online" type UPS is technically best, an "offline" version is recommended for the studio since batteries will naturally emit a certain amount of harmonic distortion to the line which could degrade audio performance.  For a typical heavy-duty computer and monitor, a Powerware PW5125 is a good choice (1500VA).  Don't be skimpy on the VA... be sure to have more than you need.  These units can be excessively noisy when the fan kicks on, so be sure to locate the unit outside the recording room.

If brown-outs and other power irregularities are a problem, a Sola-Hevi-Duty CVS ferroresonant transformer is a good choice.  Ferroresonant transformers such as the Sola CVS series are rated to keep voltage at +/-1% at all times, even during severe brown-outs, plus offer very low harmonic distortion and excellent spike protection.  The only "downside" is that the unit is large, heavy, makes noise and throws off heat, all normal for such a unit.  It is best to locate a ferroresonant transformer  near the breaker panel, and NOT inside your recording room.

A critical item for any drummer's recording toolkit is a set of "UltraPhones" by GK Music.  These headphones are comprised of high-quality Sony 7506 headphone drivers installed into Peltor ear-protection "rifle-range" headsets. The UltraPhones attenuate live drums in the room to the point where the headphone volume can be kept very low.  This is important in order to avoid immediate ear fatigue and potential hearing damage.  UltraPhones can be made at home from scratch, but since the parts are relatively expensive, it is just as efficient to buy them already made.
